Working at Publix Hampton Cove Alabama

Working in the belly of the devil

That title may be a little strong especially for some Publix.

. First I would like to say not all Publix are manage the same.

This is only my experience working at one: so I will start at this point. I have been working at Publix for almost 2 1/2 years . I was hired in as a stock clerk and after being transferred around I wound up in the seafood and meat department. I will fill in more details later how I got there.

After being transferred to the seafood and meat department, I really busted my ASS everyone from the bag boy up to the store manager told me how much of a great job I was doing, but once you get on the bad side of this store manager no matter what you do you are screwed.

I was part-time and my department manager Mike had asked the store manager several times to put me full-time I was doing a great job. The store manager change the subject and did not want to talk about it so a short time later the store manager hired a woman and put her full-time after she had been out for 30 days and made her seafood specialist in my department. Needless to say she did not live up to all expectations and as a former alcoholic she returned to her old ways and got fired or quit.

The store manager had hired a lady eight months ago, and now she is the seafood specialist I do feel that this lady is qualified and I have been training her own everything she needs to know. She is also a friend of mine but I will tell you this, she will not stand for the BS.

So now let me jump in the middle of what is going on, we had three people in the seafood department . After the first lady was fired they did not replace with anyone. The store manager told us our product movement was down, and he had to cut our hours because we had not sold as many pieces as the months before. This did not make any sense because our department was up by 10 to $15000 per month.

We had one guy our meat and cheese Stocker to go on a nine day vacation, and we are down one person, so we are missing over 80 hours, and they only give us 15 more hours to complete the same job. We did get most of the job completed, but we are exhausted. I did strain my back the other day trying to things around and get the job done on time, but I have retched a burnout POINT !!!!

On April 14 I gave the store manager Jesse a three-week notice as of May 7, 2011, I would no longer be working at Publix. He seemed to be a little agitated not just because I was leaving more to the point that he had to find someone to replace me. He asked me where was I going. I told him that was not important. To me, it would be more important to know why the employee was leaving not where he is going.

The next weeks schedule I noticed my hours had been cut from 35 hours down to 30 hours it was an Easter holiday, and the store would be close on Sunday, but I had the lowest hours in the department, including the new man whom they had just hired with no experience. My wife works for an independent vendor inside the store on my day off. I drop her off and pick her up as I dropped her off, I normally stop and get some coffee in my coffee cup the store manager asked me only to use the very small cups and do not fill my cup up. I explained to him. I have a very unusual taste, and I drink green tea every morning and as I dropped my wife off, I normally put a shot of coffee in my cup.
